Abstract: Цель статьи – установить, в какой мере и какие охраняемые территории Болгарии могут быть включены в туристический сектор страны и таким образом содействовать ее устойчивому развитию. Экологический туризм рассматривается как основной инструмент для достижения этой цели. Существуют две концепции, которые заложены в основу ее успешной реализации. Это концепция устойчивого развития и концепция развития альтернативных форм туризма. Идея заключается в том, что концепция развития альтернативного туризма подчиняется принципам устойчивого развития туризма. This paper sets the aim to determine to what extent and what categories of protected areas in Bulgaria could be integrated into tourism of the country and contribute to its sustainable development. Ecotourism is considered as a main tool to achieve this goal. Two concepts are laid upon its successful implementation. These are the concept of sustainable development and the concept of development of alternative forms of tourism. The paper also supports the thesis that the concept of development of alternative forms of tourism compliments the concept of development of sustainable tourism.
