Abstract: In this paper we deal with the much “touted and taunted” upcoming transatlantic economic integration. We scrutinize the issue through the prism of both economic theory and historical development, in an attempt to contend that economic integration is no less lucrative on a transcontinental level than it used to be on a regional level. We use theoretical and historical arguments to emphasize the necessity and opportunity of a trade and investment agreement between the United States and the European Union, which is likely to turn the Atlantic into a redoubtable economic pole. We show that Europe and America are full readiness to enter into this paramount agreement.
