Abstract: En este artículo se realiza una revisión bibliográfica de los principales aportes científicos realizados al método monetario, en base a estos fundamentos teóricos se elaboró el modelo econométrico y a través de la aplicación del contraste de cointegración de Engle y Granger y el mecanismo de anulación de la informalidad se obtuvieron estimaciones del tamaño de la economía informal para el Ecuador, periodo 1980-2013.

In this article a bibliographical review of the main scientific contributions made to the monetary method is made, based on these theoretical foundations the econometric model was elaborated and through the application of the contrast of cointegration of Engle and Granger and the mechanism of annulment of the informality Estimates were obtained of the size of the informal economy for Ecuador, period 1980-2013.
