Abstract:
The profuse use of the cereal as feeding stuff has been one of the main questions raised to the agrarian sector and its policies in Spain since Flores de Lemus elevated this proposal in 1926. Nevertheless, this change had to wait until the second half of the sixties in order to be made, this work analyses the reasons behind the difficult shift from food to feeding stuff for Spanish cereal throughout the twentieth century, previous to its development. It also explains why it finally happened then, the policy instruments used to make the shift possible, as well as the results. To do it so, this work considers mainly the period between 1967 and 1972, as it includes all the measures taken by Franco's regime to obtain a great substitution between cereals, in order to achieve a greater self sufficiency in these Iivestock inputs.
