Abstract: The technology portfolio of Swiss industry worldwide and the technology portfolio of industry inside Switzerland are being drawn on the basis of patent applications. Both portfolios are being examined with respect to globalisation and the intensification of competition through innovation. It is being shown that the swiss portfolio abroad is more science-based and more focussed on leading-edge technologies promising breakthrough innovations than inside the country.
