Abstract: This study addresses the issue of termination of insurance contracts by unilateral denunciation in accordance with Article 2209 of the Civil Code. Distinguishing features of this unusual or specific type of insurance contract are highlighted, together with its differences from the unilateral denunciation of the co ntract provided in the common law. Simultaneously, we aim at analyzing the prerequisites for making unilateral denunciation of an insurance contract, the legal effect of the denunciation throughout the notice period, as well as the effects of the insurance contract termination as a result of its denunciation.
