Abstract: In Russia process of reforming of the power industry, which was initiated in the nineties of the last century, is going on. At the present moment by means of state intervention there is selection and formation of competitive types of activities in this sphere. The control of processes carried out by the Federal antimonopoly service, which is one of the key regulators of this market. The work describes the procedures and mechanisms of competitive and natural monopoly activities, and explores the challenges involved.
