Abstract:
In literaure, while analyzing the effects of politic field over economic field, the political regime type namely the level of democratization is taken into account. Since there is no absolute agreement on the type of relationship between economic variables and democratization level, it is considered to examine the relationship between political instability and economic variables. As the level of instability effects the aims of economic process policy, it is also true that problems which are experienced in economic process may also cause political instability. In this study, at first, the relationship between political regime type and economic performance is briefly analysed. Then, the interaction mechanisms between economic process policy targets -growth, price stability, income distribution, current account balance, full employment- and political instability is tried to be explained. It is concluded that political instability is a barrier to reach the aims of economic process policy. It is stressed that it would be more advantageous in terms of national or equivalently social interests that different social groups especially in the developing countries act to decrease the political instability.
