Abstract: In this study, the relationship between service trade and GDP has been investigated for Turkish Economy. In relevant literature, the relationship between service trade and economic growth varies depending on the level of economic development and openness. The relationship is generally observed as positive for developed countries though it is indefinite for developing ones. In empirical studies carried out for the relationship between service trade and GDP, regression analysis and its advanced extensions such as unit root and co-integration analyses are generally employed. The relationship is sought out for Turkey through an ARDL approach in this study. According to test results, the effect of service trade on economic growth is negative while the effect of the other independent variable, namely openness is found as positive, both short and long run. At the development level of Turkish economy, the positive effect of service trade on economic growth has not been observed yet. As Turkey becomes more open to trade, it is expected that positive effect on economic growth will be observed.
