Abstract This chapter presents the Synthetic Control Method (SCM) proposed by Abadie and Gardeazabal (2003) and Abadie, Diamond, and Hainmueller (2010), a powerful approach to extending the counterfactual approach to assess macro policy effects (Abadie, 2021).
