The Effect of State Openness and Institutional Economy on Economic Growth in ASEAN Countries: An Application of Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model

Abstract: Abstract This study aims to analyze the long-term and short-term effects of State and Economic Openness on the economic growth of ASEAN countries. The type of data used in this study is secondary data that can be accessed through the Theworldbank.com website, in the form of an annual time series for the period 1998 to 2020. The analytical tool used is the Panel Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL). The results showed; 1) Export variables in the long term have a significant effect, while in the short term they do not have a significant effect on the economic growth of ASEAN countries. 2) Import variables in the long term have a significant effect while in the short term have a significant positive effect on the economic growth of ASEAN countries. 3) The FDI variable in the long term has a significant effect while in the short term it also has a significant influence on the economic growth of ASEAN countries. 4) The corruption variable in the long term does not have a significant effect while in the short term it has a positive influence at a significant level of 10% on the economic growth of ASEAN countries.
