Abstract: Abstract Xi’an, the starting point of the “Silk Road”, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in China with the world famous Qin Terracotta Army, Han and Tang Dynasty tombs and other cultural relics. In 2008, there were 32.3 million tourists to Xi’an. Xi’an has experienced rapid growth in recent years. However, the rapid urbanization has also put great pressure on its infrastructure. Transport demand, in particular, has grown much faster than economic growth.
