Abstract:
Abstract This research examines how per capita income, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), economic growth, and renewable energy impact energy intensity and CO2 emissions within ASEAN nations. Utilizing panel data from 2000 to 2020, the study focuses on five ASEAN member countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The analysis reveals that these variables collectively shape energy intensity and CO2 emissions in the region. Specifically, per capita income and FDI are found to have a significant negative influence on energy intensity, while economic growth exerts a positive but insignificant effect. Energy intensity, however, shows a positive yet insignificant correlation with CO2 emissions. On the other hand, FDI significantly increases CO2 emissions, whereas economic growth and renewable energy contribute to reducing CO2 emissions through their significant negative effects.
