Acceptance of drones in urban agriculture and contribution to sustainable development

Abstract: Abstract The study examines the different factors impacting the adoption of drones in urban agriculture and their implications for sustainable practices. A theoretical model was proposed, incorporating performance expectancy, effort expectancy, environmental concern, scalability and affordability, regulatory environment, and adoption intention. The framework was further extended to assess the link between drone adoption and environmental sustainability. Data were collected from 225 urban farmers through purposive sampling and a structured questionnaire. Statistical tests were adopted to test the hypothetical relationships. The results show that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, scalability and affordability, environmental concern, and regulatory support significantly enhance farmers’ intentions to adopt drones. Moreover, adoption positively contributes to environmental sustainability, with environmental concern exerting a moderating influence. The research shows the role of drones in improving agricultural efficiency and promoting sustainable urban farming.
