Chapter Chapter 9 in Off-Campus Study, Study Abroad, and Study Away in Economics, 2021, pp 97-105 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Sub-Saharan Africa is home to the majority of people living in extreme poverty and is the region of the world that faces the largest challenges to economic growth. In the spring semester of 2018, I took my Economics of Poverty class to Accra, Ghana over spring break. This paper discusses why study abroad in Africa is important for economics students, why Ghana is a particularly good first African experience, and how my trip was planned and structured. This paper is intended to serve as an aid to other faculty thinking about making a similar trip with their students.
