Abstract: Abstract Based on a statistical overview of natural disasters, this chapter presents the severe economic and social impacts in terms of human life, livelihoods and physical capital, with short- and long-term consequences for economic growth and development. Furthermore, the highly complex relationship between natural disasters and the level of a country’s development will be analysed.
