Chapter Chapter 6 in Export Diversification and Economic Growth, 2011, pp 169-184 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The trend towards export concentration not just in Colombia, but in Latin America as a whole, has been remarked on several times in the current research study. According to the World Bank, 52% of the region’s exports were composed of commodities in the past decade. In contrast, commodity exports in dynamic developing regions—East Asia and the Pacific—represented a share of only 30% (The Economist 2010). The main motivation of this chapter is to take a look at different policies and mechanisms that could spur export diversification in Colombia, placing a special emphasis on the opportunities and challenges associated with an increased level of trade with the EU.
