A chapter in Corporate Social Responsibility and Employer Attractiveness, 2021, pp 249-261 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter provides an insight on students’ preferences of employer attributes. Using a survey method approach, students, characterized as near-term labour force entrants, were queried on their value of 25 employer attributes, which included both corporate social responsibility (CSR) and non-CSR attributes. The survey process was limited to a single survey instrument, which was administered electronically and was conducted at a single US institution, Bridgewater State University. Given the diversity of the US specific to environmental sensitivities as well as sustainability implementation, and the prevailing domestic political divide specific to the anthropogenic impact on the planet, the US presents a certain complexity as student perspectives are expected to be influenced by the environmental, social and political factors that establish their daily interactions. For this reason, the chapter begins with a review of both national and state conditions that may influence students’ CSR understanding and interest (Sect. 1). This is followed by a discussion of the institutional and demographic context of the student population that formed the basis of the sample surveyed (Sect. 2) and a discussion of the survey data (Sect. 3). The chapter concludes with a discussion of lessons learned and next steps (Sect. 4).
