Chapter Chapter 13 in Nonprofit Social Enterprises, 2024, pp 123-125 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This study focused on understanding the concept of flourishing in indigenous nonprofit social enterprises working in the educational and human services sectors in sub-Saharan Africa. The study followed Charmaz’s (2007) constructivist grounded theory, which has its foundations in relativism. The grounded theory approach appreciates the multiple truths and realities of subjectivism as one tries to understand the lived experiences of the study participants. I studied 23 SENOs located across sub-Saharan Africa. All these SENOs were founded and are operated by indigenous Africans. The fundamental concern was to identify factors that led to these organizations flourishing, which I believe has contributed to their survival.
