A chapter in Global Perspectives on Climate Change, Inequality, and Multinational Corporations, 2025, pp 129-154 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, the authors question how African MNEs banks strategically address the United Nations’ SDGs and what is the role of legitimacy and internationalisation performance in achieving those goals? They built a model to test the moderating role of legitimisation and internationalisation performance in adopting SDGs for a set of Moroccan Banks expanding into the West African Economic and Monetary Union. These scholars follow a case study methodology to of three Moroccan banks. Data collected from the banks’ published reports, coded data from interviews, and survey questionnaires point to the importance of legitimisation but do not support typical internationalisation strategies as significantly as those used during the banking expansion process.
