A chapter in Special Olympics Oral History Volume 4, 2025, pp 23-49 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This is an interview with Sirui Jia and her parents in Beijing with a focus on her story. She was a former Special Olympics Champion and Global Messenger. Her story details her parents’ support in her life journey and the opportunity she had to participate in Special Olympics Games in a special school and its impact on her sense of belong, success and the development of her independent living skills. The interview indicates negative attitudes towards persons with intellectual disabilities in education. It suggests needs for the integration of Special Olympics programs in regular education system as a way to promote inclusion of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in education, community and society.
