Abstract:
Abstract This is an interview with Yan Xue, the mother of Xiao Huang who has severe cerebral palsy and other disabilities in Xi’an. Yan Xue’s detailed story of her son, the pain each family member had suffered in the process of raising her son. She also reflects upon her challenge in running her own kindergarten and special education center together with other parents to find a way for children like her son to gain education and rehabilitation. The family situation exposes a typical one of the hopeless condition of families having children with severe disabilities and their exclusion from education due to a lack of social support; and calls for urgent policy and system development for these families to survive.
