Environment, Development and Sustainability: A Multidisciplinary Approach to the Theory and Practice of Sustainable Development, 2025, vol. 27, issue 11, No 89, 28240 pages

Abstract: Abstract The escalating energy crisis, global warming, and depletion of fossil fuels underscore the urgent need to adopt sustainable energy practices. The news media play a pivotal role in shaping public understanding of these issues by disseminating vital information. This study examines the coverage of sustainable energy in two leading Indian newspapers, The Times of India and The Hindu, focusing on how these publications frame the issue and highlight key actors involved. Using framing theory, we analysed 403 articles published between April 2021 and March 2022. The findings show that government agencies are the predominant source of sustainable energy news, accounting for 53.5% of the coverage. Furthermore, the Informational frame dominates, appearing in 41.9% of the articles. While this focus on information dissemination is critical, the study suggests that increased media attention to frames such as Call for Action, problems, Causes, Innovation, and Incentives could significantly enhance public awareness and drive engagement, leading to more impactful policy changes.
