Chapter Chapter 1 in Switzerland and its Banks, 2023, pp 1-7 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract As an introduction, this chapter provides a broad overview of the development of Switzerland’s banks. In particular, this introduction reviews the development of their aggregate balance sheet since 1800, the number of employees in Swiss banking, and the amount of bank credit and mortgages in Switzerland since the nineteenth century.
