Chapter Chapter 24 in Imperial Wars in the Modern Era, 2025, pp 133-137 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract What Yamamoto wanted was a battle between the two fleets and their aircraft carriers somewhere in the Pacific Ocean north of Hawaii that would decide who would be in control of the Pacific theater of the war. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Yamamoto moved the Japanese fleet northward from Hawaii towards Midway Island, which is a tiny atoll situated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean halfway between Japan and the coast of California.
