A chapter in Digitalization in Healthcare, 2021, pp 17-28 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The majority of hospitals have looked into the possibilities of using digital infrastructures and in many cases have developed a digitalisation strategy. The degree of implementation and penetration of digital structures depends on various factors. In addition to financial and human resources, the willingness to change and to break up existing processes is often a major obstacle to success. Hospitals with a high degree of penetration of digital infrastructures have the opportunity to analyse their processes more profoundly and to interlink them. In addition to clinical decision support, which directly benefits the patient, this also affects general operational and financial processes that take the hospital organisation to a new level.
