Rethinking Human Resources Management

Chapter 6 in Human Resource Management in a Post COVID-19 World, 2021, pp 109-119 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The management of employees could be defined as the goal-oriented influencing of behaviour through communication processes that are used by supervisors within the hierarchical structure of an organisation. The management of staff as a recognised function within the company has its origins in factories in the United States about a 100 years ago. Its aim was to optimise the productivity of the workforce. Today, the situation is very different: Since the management of employees is most strongly manifested in the relationship between the line manager and the employee, a relationship that has become much more complex, it is high time that line managers took the lead again. Ultimately, effective HR management requires close cooperation between HR professionals and line managers. This is particularly true at the operational level, where constructive cooperation is required in all phases of HR management.
