On Performativity

Alexander Tsigkas ()

Chapter 2 in The Performative Enterprise, 2021, pp 9-56 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract We present a detailed discussion on performance and performativity from an etymological and theoretical aspect. In the section repetition and difference, we qualify performativity as the critical driver of shaping an active identity through a cycle of repetitive distinction. Conformance to the power system follows to explore how conformance shapes the identity. In the next section, we present the role of identity in why companies perform as they perform. In the following section, the discipline of Quality is the focal point. We use Foucault’s method of the genealogy of History to explore how Quality forms Enterprise identity.
