Chapter Chapter 13 in Leading With Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, 2022, pp 203-221 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Helping professions, due to their specific tasks and ethos, require inclusive leadership. Teamwork determines the effectiveness of helping professions, which implies that help and inclusion take place alongside management and delegation. The authors of this chapter invoke a study they conducted with a group of professionally active occupational therapists to analyze how the participants defined leadership and whether they intentionally used elements of leadership in their work. Specifically, the research questions concerned the ability to admit one’s mistake, be a role model for other people, and focus on the strengths, rather than weaknesses, of one’s coworkers. This chapter also draws the reader’s attention to servant leadership and non-hierarchical systems in the context of inclusive leadership and professions of public trust.
