Chapter Chapter 3 in Managing Science, 2011, pp 43-63 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract We turn from the method to the organization of science. As we have emphasized, science is expensive. Proposals for scientific research projects are written by scientists and submitted to funding programs – which in turn award some of the projects as research grants. Research grants support the scientists, professors and graduate students, and their equipment to perform the specified research in the proposal. Research proposals describe the issues of a research to be performed and the methods and team for performing the research.
