Chapter Chapter 3 in The Governance Structures of Chinese Firms, 2021, pp 103-165 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The business model and innovation system in the Chinese private sector are defined. They operate in a similar way to the US leading liberal market economies (the advanced English speaking countries). The firms in both business systems have a market-based firm’s governance structure and market-oriented innovation system. Such an innovation system supports IT industry, artificial intelligence, and other high technology development in the Chinese private sector. The success is manifest in the development of 5G, AI, ICT, e-commerce, Fintech, Internet of Things, smart logistics, smart city, and so on. The chapter focuses on how the business model and innovation system were built up during the period from the mid-1990s to the middle of the first decade of 21st century.
