A chapter in Innovation Mechanisms in Start-ups, 2023, pp 59-68 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract By leveraging the resources of partners, open innovation assists startups in overcoming their liabilities of newness and smallness. Startups frequently engage in open inventions including academia, corporations, and other entities. Startups, on the other hand, might collaborate with their peers to support open innovation. This chapter looks at how startup collaborations stimulate innovation by allowing them to pool their resources with their peers. The collaborations assist them in filling competency gaps by locating opportunities supplied by their peers who engage in appropriate value chain activity. The likelihood of success increases when partners meet each other’s market needs (by supplying resources) and as these partnerships create a network effect.
