Abstract: Abstract The effect of biomass fuel (BMF) on low birth weight (LBW) is more profound in relatively wealthy population. The possible explanation of this is that in poorer families, the variability of cooking amount is wide and the families who utilize more BMF obviously cook more and in turn consume more calories, precluding adverse effects of BMF smoke on LBW. In wealthier families, however, cooking amount and duration is more homogenous, and the adverse effects of BMF get better reflected in this group.
