Abstract The microcredit movement in India started with the initiation of the cooperative societies in 1905. After independence, several banking reforms had taken place in India such as Bank Nationalisation in 1969, introduction to priority sector lending in 1972, formation of Regional Rural Banks in 1975, creation of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development in 1982, etc.
