Abstract: Abstract This chapter further develops the concept of dose–response thresholds for exposure-related lung diseases, using crystalline silica as an example. It also discusses epidemiological evidence as well as biological evidence. For the sake of practitioners who may care more about such specific applications than about the more general theoretical framework of the preceding two chapters, this chapter is self-contained; it briefly summarizes the relevant biology and the alternative basins-of-attraction modeling framework as they apply specifically to crystalline silica.
