Chapter Chapter 2 in Machine Learning for Practical Decision Making, 2022, pp 45-60 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Statistical analysis is an analytical tool used to describe, summarize, and draw conclusions about data. The main two aims for statistics are descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics involve collecting, organizing, and summarizing a given dataset, whereas inferential statistics relate to concluding a population from the results obtained in a sample. In the following chapter, we will give an overview of some common descriptive and inferential statistical tests, their uses, and how to interpret their results.
