Chapter Chapter 13 in Facility Location Under Uncertainty, 2024, pp 415-436 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter discusses territory design problems under uncertainty. This is a topic much related to discrete p-median problems under uncertainty. Thus, the contents of this chapter complement in some way part of the contents of Chap. 6 . Initially, a classical setting that has been considered as basis for many districting problems is briefly reviewed. Afterwards, assuming uncertainty related to the activity level generated at the districts, a two-stage stochastic programming modeling framework is discussed with several extensions. The chapter proceeds by analyzing the use of chance constraints to replace customary hard balancing constraints. Afterwards, a different model set at the core of a robust optimization districting problem is analyzed. Budget uncertainty is assumed in this case. The chapter concludes with an overview of its contents, new research directions, and hints for further reading.
