A chapter in Outsourcing, 2025, pp 21-41 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter delves into the complex relationship between outsourcing and job quality, focusing on time-related dimensions within the increasing facility management (FM) business. By analysing data from Spain, the study addresses the incidence of outsourcing in key FM occupations and to explore the association between outsourcing and time-related dimensions of job quality. The findings reveal that while outsourcing can lead to better job security due to regulatory frameworks, it also results in higher instances of part-time work and scheduling flexibility pressures. This chapter contributes to the broader understanding of outsourcing’s impact on labour markets, highlighting the need for policies that mitigate negative outcomes while enhancing job quality.
