A chapter in Outsourcing, 2025, pp 137-151 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The chapter aims to address the issue of the relationship between fiscal condition and local services outsourcing in the context of the Italian municipalities, by attempting to answer the following research question: Is outsourcing of public services facilitated by the fiscal condition of the municipalities? The chapter presents the results of an empirical analysis carried out on all the Italian municipalities. The analysis showed that outsourcing has a positive relationship with fiscal autonomy and a negative relationship with municipal debt. Therefore, the findings suggest that in Italian municipalities outsourcing may be seen as a “politics of good times” in line with other studies recently conducted in the European context.
