Chapter Chapter 6 in Emerging Technologies in Supply Chains, 2026, pp 137-168 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Enabled by digital supply chain operations, crowdsourced manufacturing leverages cloud platforms to coordinate a distributed network of manufacturers for efficient product fulfillment. Smart contracting and crowdsourcing services are pivotal in managing manufacturing and logistics tasks within digital supply chains. However, the decentralized nature of these processes presents significant challenges in handling complex, real-time data streams. This chapter introduces an innovative smart contracting service system designed to support stakeholders across the crowdsourcing process in making informed, real-time decisions. By utilizing blockchain-based smart contracts, the system ensures secure, transparent, and efficient management of distributed data, real-time monitoring, and supply chain information sharing. A three-layer digital supply chain system architecture is proposed to facilitate this environment, supported by a distributed data streaming model built on IoT infrastructure. A case study in the tank trailer manufacturing industry demonstrates the system’s effectiveness and highlights its potential to enhance operational performance in crowdsourced manufacturing environments.
