Chapter Chapter 1 in Computational Intelligence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, 2017, pp 1-12 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter we provide a brief introduction into the concepts of logistics and supply chain management. Considering different production factors, functions and processes in a company and across companies both terms are specified taking into account different definitions from the literature. After that a brief reflection of logistics history is given, followed by a discussion of the modern importance of logistics and supply chain management. The last section motivates the usage of advanced planning methods as discussed in later chapters of the book.
