Abstract:
Abstract In 2018, the Brazilian federal government used the armed forces to manage the influx of Venezuelans into the Brazilian state of Roraima in the Amazon region. Our study aims to analyse the complexity of this scenario, describing army-run shelters as hybrid refugee camps. These immigration administration forms indicate the production of a security perspective mediated by militarised humanitarianism. The central issue deals with the advancement of securitisation policies in Latin America, taking the case of the Brazilian far north as an example.
