Chapter 5 in Managing Learning Enterprises, 2024, pp 75-90 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The fifth chapter of the book Managing Learning Enterprises entitled “Knowledge Management: A Modern Core Competence” from the first part entitled “Characteristics of a Learning Enterprise” begins by pointing out that although many organizations and companies do not transform themselves into learning organizations, they cultivate their learning orientation and apply different learning approaches depending on their objectives, competencies, and strategies. In this context, the learning continuum is presented first, followed by the identification of four key dimensions of learning that should be managed by a Chief Learning Officer. In this context, numerous aspects have been identified that may be of particular interest to practitioners. The problem of knowledge management is then identified in terms of the need to stimulate the knowledge spiral, and suggestions for the transfer of tacit knowledge are presented. The problem of organizational amnesia is then explained, followed by the problem of orphaned knowledge and how it is created and how it can be relearned. The process of knowledge management as a process is then analyzed in detail.
