Chapter Chapter 1 in Optimisation in Synchromodal Logistics, 2023, pp 3-15 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, a view is given on optimisation of synchromodal transportation. For this, a framework is presented to distinguish four quadrants, based on local or global information available, combined with a local or global optimisation goal. We discuss how shifts can be made in this framework and how self-organisation can play a role in it. Next, a second way to distinguish between synchromodal planning problems is presented, based on the presence of uncertainty and the degree of freedom in service network design.
