Abstract:
Abstract The MAC layer protocol is an important factor affecting the performance of mobile ad hoc networks. Existing researches mostly analyze the performance of the MAC layer protocol in an ideal state, that is, when the topological residence time is long enough. However, topological dynamics is a major feature of mobile ad hoc networks and cannot be ignored. In this paper, considering the topological dynamics, that is, when the topological residence time is limited, the performance of the MAC layer protocol using the election mechanism is analyzed. The analysis in this paper finds that the topological residence time decreases as the number of one-hop nodes increases, while the network maintenance time is the opposite. When the network maintenance time exceeds the topological residence time, the network wouldn’t work normally. Under certain network parameters and protocol parameters, the upper limit of the number of one-hop nodes to enable the network to work normally is obtained. This provides a theoretical analysis method for node deployment in actual projects.
