Abstract:
Abstract In this paper we propose and evaluate different configurations and control strategies for the stacker-crane-based automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS), part of a new dynamic hybrid pallet warehouse (DHPW). A DHPW is composed of an AS/RS and an autonomous vehicle storage and retrieval system (AVS/RS). First, we present a brief description of the DHPW system under consideration. We then review some solutions from the literature to improve the performance of an AS/RS. Next, we propose relevant configurations and control strategies for the stacker-crane system of a DHPW, followed by a discrete event simulation and an evaluation of the concepts according to the level of performance they enable, thus their capability to alleviate the throughput bottleneck of the stacker cranes for a DHPW. Finally, we discuss the main results of this study.
