Chapter Chapter 8 in Policy Sciences and the Human Dignity Gap, 2024, pp 85-102 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract As a responsible citizen and leader, you must ensure that both private and public decisions are based on sound judgments. To make such decisions, you must understand the decision-making process, including the standards for sound decision-making and opportunities to improve the process when necessary. This chapter discusses how to assess decision-making to make it more effective. It further examines how the decision process functions as a key evaluative tool in the policy sciences framework. This tool has practical and broad utility. It provides a tool to grasp the process along with questions and a case example. People interacting in social processes, that is, all of us, make decisions all the time. The outcomes of our decisions set the rules, norms, and guidelines—new policies—for how we live our individual and collective lives. In value terms, decisions determine who gets which values. Decisions determine if people live lives of dignity in healthy environments or not.
