A grey multi criteria decision making application for analyzing the essential reasons of recurrent lane change

Abstract: Abstract One of the most important reasons that endanger traffic safety is recurrent lane change. Lane change risks can be reduced with the identification and categorization of significant factor(s) of recurrent lane change of drivers. Many studies identify the main reason as traffic volume. However, it is not the only reason. The primary aim of this study is evaluation and prioritization of the most related factors that is affecting recurrent lane change based on experts’ responses on the survey. Experts on transportation evaluated the factors of the study to rank the essential reasons of recurrent lane change. The proposed grey analytic hierarchy process technique was used in order to find a compromised solution by minimizing the effects of the subjective judgements of the experts in the joint solutions. Various studies in the literature demonstrate that decreasing the subjectivity of the experts are very important and grey based methods are very effective to achieve this. The proposed model efficiency highlights and ranks the most related factors that are affecting recurrent lane change in order to help authorities in the correct response and resolution.
