Chapter Chapter 5 in Innovation in the Public Sector, 2022, pp 177-194 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract One of the current trends is that everything should be “smart.” In the energy industry, there has long been talk of “smart energy,” which involves supplying electricity to various “smart homes” through a “smart distribution grid.” Automakers dream of a “smart vehicle” that will revolutionize traffic through “smart mobility.” In recent years, urban policies all over the world make “smart city” the ultimate political goal to be achieved by the “smart management” of the respective cities. Today, discussions and comments on “smart state” and “smart city” both in the media and among public decision-makers are gaining incredible popularity. These terms describe the use of digital devices, innovative systems, wireless applications, robot technologies, and many other sci-fi elements in national and urban contexts. Thus, serious investments are being made in “pilots” that will make it possible to remotely manage, coordinate, and maintain most public services.
