Chapter Chapter 34 in Smart Tourism as a Driver for Culture and Sustainability, 2019, pp 503-514 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The aim of the present study is to investigate the professional burnout and job satisfaction among physical education teachers who work in local sports organizations of Attica region in Greece. Questionnaires were distributed in 9 municipalities of Attica region and 120 physical education teachers were purposively selected to respond. The research results show that on the one hand, gender isn’t correlated with burnout, while age had a small but statistically significant relationship with burnout. On the other hand, men appear more satisfied than women. It was also found that organizational features affect both burnout and job satisfaction. In other words, role ambiguity reduces burnout and increases job satisfaction, while role conflict increases burnout and reduces job satisfaction. Finally, it is was observed that employees exhibited low burn out and high job satisfaction. These results confirm other studies that pointed out physical education teachers’ low levels of burnout and high levels of job satisfaction.
